NAUSEA / VOMITING / ABDOMINAL PAIN / FAINTING
Nausea and Vomiting

Have student lie down. Keep quiet, warm and under observation.

Give no fluids or food.

Notify parents and school nurse.

Advise a consultation with a physician, if symptoms continue for more than
half an hour.
Abdominal Pain

Have student lie down.

Give no medication or anything by mouth.

Notify parents and school nurse.

Advise a consultation with a physician, if symptoms continue for more than
half an hour.
Menstrual Cramps
-
Evaluate for excessive bleeding and symptoms of shock (drowsiness, confusion,
clammy skin).

Evaluate for bleeding that is not part of normal cycle for possible miscarriage.

Notify parents and school nurse.

Advise a consultation with a physician, if symptoms continue for more than
half an hour.

For mild cramps - Encourage student to continue her activities. If
student has had an evaluation by physician, allow student to self-administer
Tylenol or Ibuprofen, if she has her own.
Fainting
-
Keep student lying down.
-
Loosen tight clothing around the neck.
-
Make sure student gets plenty of fresh air.
-
Bathe face with cold water or cool wet cloth.
-
Give no liquids until student is fully conscious.
-
Assess reason for fainting (ex. too hot, allow to cool down); unknown-keep
warm and treat for shock.

Notify parents and school nurse.
