HEAD INJURY / HEADACHE

Major Head Injury - Loss of Consciousness

  • DO NOT MOVE STUDENT.  Keep warm and quiet.
  • If movement is necessary because scene is unsafe, keep head and spine in alignment.
  • Observe for signs of shock, restlessness: fast or weak pulse, pale or bluish skin, moist skin, nausea and vomiting, and treat accordingly
  • Notify parents and school nurse.
  • Call 911 or local emergency response team.
Minor Head Injury
  • Lay the student down.  Keep warm and quiet.
  • Apply cold compress to affected area to reduce swelling.
  • Notify parents and school nurse.
Headache Not Associated with Injury
  • Allow student to lie down with a cold compress.
  • Check for fever.
  • Give no medications (unless parents have signed a medication administration form for headache).
  • Notify parents and school nurse.
BACK & NECK INJURY - EYE INJURY
HEAD INJURY / HEADACHE - EAR INJURY
SPRAINS / FRACTURES / DISLOCATIONS POISONS
SEIZURES - CHOKING
NOSEBLEEDS / BLEEDING - SHOCK
DIABETIC EMERGENCIES - DENTAL INJURY
BURNS
NAUSEA / VOMITING / ABDOMINAL PAIN / FAINTING
BITES / STINGS / SKIN IRRITATION
EMERGENCY MEDICAL CARE
