DIABETIC EMERGENCIES 

SYMPTOMS

  • Dizziness, drowsiness, confusion, rapid breathing, rapid pulse, nausea, headaches, sweating, shakiness, poor coordination.
TREATMENT
  • If student is conscious give him/her sugar or food containing sugar (juice, candy, non-diet soda).
  • If student is unconscious, DO NOT give anything by mouth.
  • Monitor airway, breathing and circulation.
  • Maintain normal body temperature.  DO NOT LEAVE STUDENT UNATTENDED.
  • Notify parents and school nurse.
  • Call 911 or local emergency response team.
  • Take or send a copy of medical information with student to hospital.
  • A detailed incident report should be initiated immediately.

HEAD INJURY / HEADACHE - EAR INJURY
SPRAINS / FRACTURES / DISLOCATIONS POISONS
SEIZURES - CHOKING
NOSEBLEEDS / BLEEDING - SHOCK
DIABETIC EMERGENCIES - DENTAL INJURY
BURNS
NAUSEA / VOMITING / ABDOMINAL PAIN / FAINTING
BITES / STINGS / SKIN IRRITATION
