DENTAL INJURIES

Fractured Jaw

  • Notify parents and school nurse.
  • Call 911 or local emergency response team.
Broken Tooth
  • May rinse mouth with warm water if desired.
  • Notify parents to take to the dentist immediately.
  • Notify school nurse.
Toothache
  • May rinse the mouth with warm water.
  • DO NOT apply Tylenol or other medications to aching tooth.
  • Notify parents to take student to the dentist.
Knocked Out Tooth
  • When knocked out, find it and place it in moist gauze or ziplock baggie.
  • DO NOT clean tooth, socket or rinse mouth.
  • Notify parents to take to the dentist.
  • Notify school nurse.
Bitten Lip or Tongue
  • Using disposable gloves apply direct pressure to the bleeding area with a sterile or clean cloth.
  • If swelling is present, apply cold compress.
  • If bleeding continues, notify parents to take student to the physician or emergency room.
  • Notify school nurse.
Orthodontic Problems - Braces and Retainers
  • If wire is embedded in the cheek, tongue or tissue, DO NOT attempt to remove it.
  • If a wire is causing irritation, cover the end with a small piece of orthodontic wax.
  • If student has a loose or broken appliance, notify parents to take student to orthodontist with appliance.
BACK & NECK INJURY - EYE INJURY
HEAD INJURY / HEADACHE - EAR INJURY
SPRAINS / FRACTURES / DISLOCATIONS POISONS
SEIZURES - CHOKING
NOSEBLEEDS / BLEEDING - SHOCK
DIABETIC EMERGENCIES - DENTAL INJURY
BURNS
NAUSEA / VOMITING / ABDOMINAL PAIN / FAINTING
BITES / STINGS / SKIN IRRITATION
EMERGENCY MEDICAL CARE
