Poisonous -

Lay student down and keep calm.

Call 911 or local emergency response team.

Notify parents and school nurse.

Non-Poisonous -
-
Treat as for dog, bat or other animal bites.

Notify parents and school nurse.

Advise to consult with family physician.
Dog, Bat, and Other Animal Bites

Use disposable gloves.
-
Cleanse wound with soap and abundant amounts of water.
-
Cover with dry dressing.
-
Notify parents and advise to consult with family physician.

The incident must be immediately reported to Health Department and school
nurse.
Insect Bites
-
Severe reaction -
-
If student has injectable epinephrine have him/her administer medication
to him/her self.
-
Contact 911 or local emergency response team.

Notify parents and school nurse.

Minor reaction -
-
Use disposable gloves.
-
Remove stinger if still present with a scraping motion.
-
Apply a paste of baking soda or meat tenderizer, or a cold compress to
the affected area.
Poison Ivy, Oak, or Sumac

Use disposable gloves.
-
Cleanse skin with warm water and soap to remove the oil which causes the
irritation.

Rinse with clear water and dry.
-
Change all exposed clothing.
-
Notify parents and school nurse.
